Tayside and Lochee

News of a win at Carnoustie last Saturday (I think).

Well done to Marianne's Glenn who took Best of Breed and then 4th in the group! Apparently this is his first group placing so will be even more thrilling........hopefully the first of many.

I don't think there were any other wins to mention but please let me know if I'm wrong and a photo of Glenn would be appreciated Marianne.

Ron attended the show but he was there to judge the pastoral group, this was to be his last appointment as he has now retired from judging. He was very pleased to see that his group winner, a 7.5 month old Samoyed, went on to Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show. A good way to bow out Ron!

Highland CA Limited Show

Inverness Aquadome was the setting for Highland Canine Association's Members Limited Show on Sunday. The north was still affected by snow and in places the road through was pretty dodgy but many intrepid folk managed to make it. Those that made it from the winter wonderlands that are Keith and Inverurie deserve a medal.......or maybe need a sanity check!

Quite a few wins to report for Spey Valley members.

June went home with a heap of rosettes and trophies to boot after a particularly successful day for Benson. He won his class, Best of Breed, Group 1 and then Reserve Best in Show. Not only that but he was Best Working Puppy and then went on to be declared Best Puppy in Show! Well done!!

In hounds, Liz's Poppy was Best of Breed and Group 2 and Erica and Dougie's Charlotte was Best of Breed and Group 4.

In toys, Sue's Rosa won her class, Linda's TJ won his and then Best of Breed and Group 1. Les and Rita's Danny won Best Toy NSC and Group 2, he was also Best Toy Puppy.

In gundogs, Jennifer's Riley was Best of Breed. (I missed the group - can anyone send in a photo?)

In utility, Linda and Ron's William was at his first show and let everyone know just what he thought of it.....not much! He did come away with Best of Breed.

In pastoral, Morag handled Jenny's Sadie to Best of Breed and Group 4, beating big brother Brint in the process!

In terriers, Jock's Chardonnay was Best of Breed and Group 1 and Daveena's Rowan beat her sister into second place when she won their NSC class. Jock had further success with his Westie pup, whose name I'm afraid I don't know, who took Best Terrier Puppy.

In the Junior Handling classes, Glenn won the 6 - 11 years and Ria was 4th. Caitlin came 3rd in the 12 - 16 years. Glenn then went onto Best Junior Handler.

Congratulations to all and, as usual, if I've missed anyone please let me know.

A couple of wins missed from Caledonian:

Sue's Finlay won his class and Katrina's Chance won the Border Collie open class.

Katrina headed south straight afterwards as she had the Midlands Border Collie Club Ch show at Stoke on Trent the very next day. It was a late arrival at the Travel Lodge and straight to bed then up at 5.30am to go to the show. There were no wins for her dogs but they were all well placed. Although another night's accommodation was booked, the snow that hit the south had already started so, to avoid getting stuck, Katrina drove all the way home. Back home and dead beat by 6.30am. That was some weekend Katrina! And we do this for fun?!!

Classes cancelled

Due to the continuing cold and icy conditions, there will be no classes tomorrow night. Hopefully things will warm up by next week and we'll get back to normal.

Matches

The match for Banff, Moray and Nairn CC members, which was to be held tomorrow (Monday) night, has been cancelled due to the weather.

Hopefully the weather conditions will have improved for our own interclub match on the 28th February. Donside Ringcraft Club, Silver City and BMNCC have been invited and the judge will be Mrs Mandy Morton. Further details to follow.

The "Caley"

Yesterday saw a handful of Spey Valley members heading south to Edinburgh for the Caledonian Canine Society's Open Show, which is held in the Lowland Hall at Ingliston. There seemed to be a lack of northern exhibitors at the show but perhaps the possibility of bad weather at this time of year deterred some or it could be that this isn't the cheapest of shows to enter and rosettes are thin on the ground!

Results are also thin on the ground, most members' dogs were placed but I think only two managed a red rosette. Morag's Logie won his class, making him Best Import, and Joanne's Walter was also first in his class.

There was success in the Junior Handling classes. After winning their respective age group classes, Caitlin beat brother Glenn to take Best Junior Handler. Both of them have now qualified for SKC, Richmond and Crufts 2010.

Well done everyone!

There aren't many photos but a few follow.
