Ballater

Scottish Working Trials Society held an open trial at Ballater on the 23rd and 24th of June. In keeping with most of the country, conditions were extremely wet so anyone attending deserves a medal!

Extra large medals should go to Hilary, who was judging, Jenny and Colin, who spent most of the weekend trudging through heather laying tracks and not forgetting Steve in his role as first-time Trial manager. Hope you've all dried out by now!

Gladys wouldn't have noticed the weather at all, seeing as she was on cloud nine after Danny qualified for his certificate of merit in CD. He was, in fact, the only one to qualify and also won the class! Very well done Gladys, we know how much effort you have put into training Danny (we've heard you!)

More Blackpool news

Missed this one! Katrina's young rough collie, Cosmo, was 1st in his class at Blackpool too. Well done!

Katrina also had a good day at Blackpool with her border collies, Chance and Riva both had 2nd places and Star a 3rd, very good going seeing as collie entries are always big.

Blackpool came at the end of Katrina and Linda's big adventure - two weeks in a tent and taking in three champ shows. Very brave when you consider British summers nowadays!

Malibu wins at Blackpool

Blackpool Champ show was held last week and the only win that I am aware of was Elizabeth's Malibu who was 1st in Puppy Bitch. Congratulations!

Daveena's Tilly went BOB and G2, Karen's Ceilidh was best NSC terrier and G3 and Caitlin was best junior handler.

Joan's Bo was best NSC hound and G2.

As far as I know, Caithness is the most northerly open show and used to be very well attended but seems to be suffering from reduced entries, in common with many open shows. The long journey up there will obviously be a factor and it has been suggested that more members of our club might enter if a bus could be organised next year. Would anyone be interested? Please comment.

Here are a few results which were missed from Dundee.

Karen's Ceilidh was Best of Breed and both Caitlin and Glenn did well in the junior handling classes. Caitlin was 1st in JHA (12-16 years) and this qualifies her for Scottish Junior of the Year and also Richmond. Glenn was VHC in YKC (6-11 years) but, best of all, 2nd in JHA (6-11 years) which means he will be accompanying Caitlin to Richmond as this is a qualifying position. Well done both of you and good luck when the time comes.

Leila goes out with a bang!

Linda and Ron bravely travelled to the end of the earth (well almost) and attended Caithness open show on 23rd June. It was well worth the effort because Leila, who has had a very successful puppy career, took Best Puppy in Show. Linda tells me that it was Leila's last puppy class so she certainly did it in style. Congratulations!

Border Union

(Agility show a week later)


Border Union champ show was held at a rather muddy Kelso on the 16th and 17th June, although the showground was in a far worse state for the agility show held there the following weekend! I'll try and post a photo taken then to illustrate how lucky we were.

Plenty of club members attended the show and many were placed well but the only wins that I know of were Joanne's Walter winning his Junior class and Lynne's Luigi winning Best Import. Congratulations to all. If anyone knows of wins that I have missed please email me.

A good weekend for Joan and Bo

Dundee Canine Club held its open show at the great venue of Camperdown Park on the 9th June and it was immediately followed by St Andrews and District at Perth ice rink on the 10th. I am not aware of any club members doing much in the way of winning at Dundee, Joan and Bo probably had the most success with a worthy second in a very large hound puppy class and this was topped off with Best Hound puppy at Perth the following day. Looking good Bo! Keep it up.

First Aid Seminar

The club is grateful to Fraser Murdoch for coming and giving an informative talk on first aid for dogs, ably assisted by vet nurse Lesley and three very patient patients, Dillon, Brodie and Oban. We were shown how to do various dressings and a few people had a bash at doing it themselves with pretty good results - their extremely co-operative patients helped enormously!

It was a very enjoyable evening, made an interesting change to the usual Tuesday and we've hopefully all learned something new.

Banff, Moray & Nairn CC

Banff, Moray & Nairn CC Open show was held last Saturday. Unusually for this show, the weather was bright and sunny, which meant it was quite a hot atmosphere in the hall. However, there were quite a few good results for club members and photos follow, well done to everyone. I missed some groups so, if anyone knows of any other wins, please let me know.

Some of you may remember Jan Crampton who used to come to the club with her Tibetan Terriers but has since moved back down to England. SKC must be a lucky show for her as Edgrr won another CC there last week and that means he is now a champion!! Great news. If you see this Jan - congratulations! We knew he'd get there, he looked a cracking dog from the start but Spey Valley training classes must have had an influence!

Scottish Papillon Club Champ Show

Sue went down to the Papillon Club of Scotland's Champ show at Lanark with Pansy and Gypsy and both of them did really well. It was the first champ show they have attended this year (apart from Crufts) and Pansy qualified for next year with a 3rd in a class of 11 Post Graduate bitches and Gypsy won Open bitch (6 present). They were very pleased to be competing for the CC but the competition was too strong - so near and yet so far.

First Aid seminar

There will be no training classes at all on Tuesday 29th May as Fraser Murdoch from Moray Coast Vet Group will be coming to give a talk on first aid for dogs. He will be bringing a dog or two for demonstration purposes so please don't bring your own. It starts at 7.30pm, the cost is £3 per person and refreshments will be available.

If you are interested in attending, please pre-book and pay in advance as we need an idea of numbers, this can be done on Tuesday 21st at the hall but, if you are unable to attend that night, you can email me.

Look out for further seminars in the future - we are planning one on homeopathy in the autumn.

Best Veteran again

Well done to Morag and Arran, they went down to Working and Pastoral Breeds Open show at Perth, took best of breed and then won Best Veteran in Show.

Companion show at Insch

Club members had a good day at the Companion show held at Insch recently.

Another Best in Show for Joanne's Annie, Heather's Sasha was Reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show went to Linda and Ron's Leo. Congratulations to you all.

The Odd Couple class was won by Sarah's Sasha accompanied by Bob and John's Thistle, I think you'll agree they were perfectly described!

Steve and Hilary's Jay and Quincy looking very laid back about their wins at the Pets As Therapy show and the obedience match.

Jay won the Pastoral class and Quincy won the Highers obedience class at Roseisle and they both took third in their respective classes at the match. Well done boys.

Scottish Great Dane Club Championship Show

Joanne went down to the Scottish Great Dane Club show with her three youngsters and had a very successful day. Nana was 3rd in minor puppy bitch, Walter 3rd in junior dog and Annie continued her winning streak with 1st in junior bitch. You'll have your hands full at Crufts next year Joanne!

The match went well and everyone who took part seemed to enjoy themselves. Our thanks go to Alison Robertson for doing such a good job as our judge and to the members of other clubs who kindly supported us. The Companion show at Roseisle attracted a very large entry, the good weather was appreciated by all and Pets as Therapy must have raised a good deal of money.

The club had a very successful day with almost a clean sweep of the

major awards - well done to all!

Following on from their success at Ross & Cromarty, Heather had

another great weekend as Sasha took BIS.

In the Obedience, Amy and Tia won the Fliers class, Jenny and Brint came 3rd.

Hilary and Quincy won Highers, Sue and Teasel came 2nd and Morag and Oban came 5th.

Hilary and Steve had extra cause for celebration when Jay won the pastoral class.

The working class was won by June with Barney and the terrier by Caitlin and Tilly.

Companion show and Obedience match

There will be a Companion dog show in aid of Pets as Therapy on Sunday 15th April at Roseisle Hall, near Burghead. Pedigree, novelty and obedience classes are scheduled - something to suit everyone! Dogs have to be 6 months and over to enter but they don't have to be Kennel Club registered. It will be a great day out so please go along and support a good cause. Entries from 10.30am, judging starts at 12 noon.

The following week, on Saturday 21st, the club is holding an Obedience match in the hall. It will be a fun, informal day with three classes scheduled to cater for anyone from complete beginners up to experienced dogs and handlers. Entries from 10.30am with judging starting at 11am. Refreshments will be available. We'd love to see you there.

Ross & Cromarty Open show

Ross and Cromarty open show was held today at Invergordon Leisure centre. Quite a few Spey Valley members attended, the most notable successes being in Terrier and Utility. A few photos follow but I was only there for part of the day so may have missed other wins. Please send any results and I'll be happy to post them.
