Ross and Cromarty Open Show

Ross and Cromarty Canine Club's Open show was held last Sunday at Invergordon. The weather was beautiful, very warm and sunny, what a pity it wasn't an outdoor show.

Once again, June's Benson took top honours, he went Best Of Breed, took the group and was then declared Best In Show - his 7th such award. Well done and keep it up Benson!

Caitlin and Solo were also up there at the top, in fact they appeared in both the line up for Best In Show as well as Best Puppy In Show after Solo won the terrier group as well as Best Terrier Pup! Congratulations!

A number of other club members did very well, here's a round up of results:

Working - Donna's River won his class but was beaten to BOB by Joanne's Walter who went on to G2. Joanne also had success with Manfred who took Best Working Puppy.

Pastoral - Roseanne's Toby and St John both won their classes and Toby took BOB. Katrina's Marty and Leo also both won their classes with BOB going to Leo. Jenny's Sadie was BOB and also G4.

Terriers - Caitlin's Solo, as above. Karen's Poppy took Best NSC and also G2.

Hounds - Erica's Charlotte was BOB and G3.
.
Gundogs - Fran's Diesel was BOB as was Sue's Finlay.

Utility - Morag's Logie was Best Import Register.

Toy - Jill's Chico was BOB plus G2 and his son, Cracker, won the toy minor puppy class. Ria's Jasper won his class, BOB and G3. Linda's Mollie was Best NSC and G4.

Well done everybody!

Thanks to Fran for the photo of Charlotte, I missed the hound and gundog groups completely so any photos would be welcome as well as any news that I may have missed.

A win and an award for Benson

June's Benson is still on top form, three weeks ago he took the UK Newfoundland Club's award of Top Winning Dog Open Shows and followed that up a week later by winning Limit Dog at the Northern Newfoundland Club champ show.

Congratulations!

Forthcoming Companion Shows

News of two Companion shows in the not too distant future.

Brint almost gets his second

Jenny competed with Brint at the first Scottish open obedience show of the year, which was held at Arbroath on Saturday 20th March.

For those who are not familiar with obedience competitions, moving up the levels involves winning out of the lower classes. Jenny and Brint already have one win in Beginners (no mean feat as competition is fierce) and one more will mean they are permanently out of that class and working in Novice and above. They very nearly achieved that goal at Arbroath but instead had to settle for yet another 2nd place. So near and yet so far!

Well done on getting placed and fingers crossed for next time Jenny.

Brint lets off some steam

Obedience match

Our obedience match on March 21st went well and although there were less competitors than we usually get, those that took part completed some good rounds and enjoyed themselves. They also enjoyed the very tasty sausage rolls...and there were plenty to go round!

A big thank you to our judge Nicola for giving up her time and doing such a good job.

Well done to the winners and all those placed.

Ria and Jasper were 1st in the SKC Pre-Beginners under 16yrs class, this qualifies them for the finals at SKC in August.

1st and 2nd in the SKC Pre-Beginners over 16yrs - Margaret with Ellie and Karen with Susie. They also qualify for the finals.

Class 3
1st Margaret with Ellie
2nd Jenny with Sadie
3rd Martin with Digger
4th Morag with Logie

Class 4
1st Martin and Jamie
2nd Fran and Tasha
3rd Sue and Teasel
4th Jenny and Keira
5th Jenny and Brint
6th Colin and Beauly

LKA and Manchester

More late results, this time from LKA champ show in December and Manchester champ show in January.

Elaine had a great day at LKA, Fitz won his Junior Dog class, Zeta was 1st in Limit Bitch and went on to take the CC.

Katrina's Marty kept up his run of success by winning another Puppy Dog class.

Elaine with Zeta

At Manchester it was yet another 2nd place in Puppy for Katie's Lara, the wins may have eluded her but she has certainly been consistant.

Sue's Kupah is another pup who has been doing well and he notched up another win in Puppy Dog at Manchester.

Well done!

Thanks to Elaine and Katie for the photos.

Crufts

Crufts has been and gone for another year and I have news of quite a few wins and places for club members, particularly in the gundog group. I only have a few photographs so if you have any of your dog on the famous green carpet, please send them in.

Gundog - Katie's Lara was 2nd in Junior Bitch, Elizabeth's Asher 3rd in Limit Dog, Sue's Kupah 1st in Puppy Dog, Nicola's Toby 3rd Yearling Dog, Fran's Diesel 5th Good Citizen Dog and Jennifer's Wallace 1st Good Citizen Dog.

Working - Elaine's Zeta won her Limit Bitch class and went on to take the RCC.

Terrier - Daveena's Inka was 3rd in Open Bitch and Karen's Ceilidh 3rd Veteran Bitch.

Hound - Liz's Bunty(?) was 4th in a large Post Grad class.

Pastoral - Linda and Vic's Gino was 3rd in another large Post Grad class.

Toy - Pugs had the second highest entry in the toy group and classes were very large, Ria's Jasper did extremely well to get placed 4th out of 20 in Post Grad and he also won the Good Citizen Dog class. Elizabeth and George's Lola was 2nd in Junior Bitch.

Caitlin took part in the YKC grooming for the first time and was placed 2nd in her class.

Well done to you all!

As ever, if I've missed anything, please let me know.

Catrine CC Open Show

A very late result but one that's well worth mentioning. Way back in December, Jill was at Catrine Canine Club's open show in Irivine. Not only did Chico do very well with a Best NSC and G4 but younger brother Tiger went one better, he took Special Best Toy Puppy and then topped it off with Special Best Puppy in Show! Congratulations!

Another best at Bon Accord for Benson

Bon Accord Kennel Association held their first open show of the year at Thainstone Mart, Inverurie on January 16th. Last year the walk across the car park was made difficult due to icy conditions, this year, thanks to lashing rain, the challenge was to get into the hall without dogs and owners getting soaked to the skin!

Once again June's Benson took the top spot, his third big win in a row at Bon Accord shows. Last year he was Best Puppy at Thainstone and he also took BIS at the summer show in Seaton Park. Congratulations June and Benson!

There were a number of wins for club members, I'll try and remember them all but please let me know if I've forgotten any.

Terrier - Cathy's Sula won her class and went on to take the terrier group. Karen's Ceilidh won her class and G3, Poppy was Best NSC and G4. Caitlin's Solo won his minor pup class and puppy group 2.

Pastoral - Jenny's Sadie took BOB and then the pastoral group.

Toy - Jill's Chico was Best NSC and G2, Sue's Rosa won her class and Gypsy was Best Toy Veteran.

Gundog - Sue's Finlay and Logan both won their classes and BOB.

Hound - Liz took the whippet BOB and G3 but I'll have to find out which dog it was. Joan's Bo was BOB and also G2. Erica and Doug's Willow won her class and BOB.

Utility - Morag's Logie added another Best Import to his collection.

Ria won the JH 6-11 yr class, Glenn was 3rd. Caitlin was second in the JH 12-16 yr. There are also adult handling classes at this show and Morag took Best Lady Handler and then Best Overall Adult Handler.

Well done everybody!

Crufts

As most of you will know, Crufts will be happening from Thursday to Sunday this week. Unlike last year, you will be able to see it on TV as digital channel More 4 is providing coverage.

Wishing all club members making the long trip down to Birmingham safe journeys and good luck!

Obedience Match

We will be holding an Obedience match on Sunday 21st March in the hall, which will be open to anyone who would like to come along.

There will be four classes in all, the first two (under 16 years and over 16 years) are part of the Scottish Kennel Club's Obedience Beginners' competition and are open to anyone who has not taken part in an Open Obedience show. The first four in each of these classes will have the opportunity to compete at the finals, which will be held at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, later in the year. The exercises aren't too difficult so come and have a go!

For those that have previously competed, there will be two classes. The first is restricted to dogs which haven't been entered at Open level and the second is open to all.

There will be some lovely rosettes on offer and we will be having a break for refreshments. Further details regarding judge and time will follow.

Fingers crossed we won't be hit by any more snow!

Match cancellation

Unfortunately, due to the very bad weather conditions which look set to last a few days, Saturday's match has been cancelled.

Show match

Slightly short notice, I'm afraid, but don't forget our show match which is being held this Saturday (27th) in the hall. A good opportunity to get a bit of practice in before Crufts!

Entries will be taken from 10am with judging starting at 11am. Our judge is Jackie Fraser (Wyvisview).

There will be a break for refreshments and also a raffle. Everyone is welcome!

A thank you from Sue

I would like to thank everyone who sent cards and get well wishes during my recent spell in hospital, they were very much appreciated. For someone who has always taken good health for granted, it has come as something of a shock to find myself rather weak and feeble!

I am very pleased to be back home and, for the time being, I am working on building up my strength, Crufts is just around the corner and I'm aiming to be fit enough to enjoy a few days there. Hopefully I'll be seeing you all at classes soon,
