Aberdeen Canine Training Society Open Obedience Show

This weekend was very busy, you know how it is, you wait ages for a show to turn up and then three come at once!! There's lots of news so I'll do it in stages, starting with the Obedience show.

Aberdeen's Hazlehead Park was the venue for ACTS's annual two-day Open show and, most unusually, the sun was shining for both days. No splashing round rings and down stays in puddles this year!

Jenny's Brint was on top form for both days. He did a great round in Beginners on Saturday which had him sitting in first place all day and no other dog managed to knock him off so he won the class! On the Sunday he did an even better round but was just beaten into second place by the dog that he had beaten on Saturday, there was just a quarter of a point in it.

For anyone unfamiliar with competitive obedience, Beginners may sound as if it should be easy but this is definitely not the case. Classes are large, competition is extremely fierce and the slightest squint sit or wide turn can knock off points. Winning the class is a major achievement. The same applies to Pre-Beginners, which is the lowest class you can enter, so many good dogs are entered and it isn't easy to win out of these classes.

Colin, Fran and Lisa were also competing and they all went home with rosettes. In Beginners on Saturday, Fran and Tasha were 6th, Colin and Beauly were 9th. Lisa's Ozzy was 7th in Pre-Beginners on Sunday. I'm taking these results from the photos so, if they're wrong, please let me know.

Thanks to Jenny for the photos.

Congratulations everyone!
