Border Union Championship Show

Border Union champ show takes place in the lovely town of Kelso, right beside the river, making it a popular place for show folk to camp. The weather makes all the difference of course, previous years have seen plenty of rain but this year the sun was beating down on lots of happy campers.

Quite a few club members attended and many achieved good results.

June's Benson is now three points nearer his Junior Warrant as he won his Junior Dog class and then went on to take the RCC! Congratulations! Best of luck for Blackpool this weekend.

The only hound group result I found was Liz's Bunty who was first in a large Post Grad Bitch class.

The toy group provided most of our results. Ria was very excited when Jasper qualified for Crufts by taking second place in Junior Dog, not only that but he went on to win Novice Dog. Jasper's ringside fan club were also very excited!

The Pamojill dogs had a good day with Tony winning his Puppy Dog class, Suki first in Junior Bitch and Chico taking second in Limit Dog and then Reserve Best Dog.

Linda's TJ was second in a large Open Dog class.

Elizabeth's Malibu was second in Post Grad Bitch.

Linda and Ron's Esmee was second in Junior Bitch.

Elizabeth and George's Lola was first Puppy Bitch, Rosa first Post Grad Bitch, Lily first Limit Bitch and Reserve Best Bitch. Giovanni was also in the cards with a second in Junior Dog.

In utility, Morag's Logie was first Junior Dog and then took Reserve Best Import Dog.

Linda and Ron's Denzil was 2nd in Puppy Dog and Leo 2nd in Limit Dog.

In pastoral, Linda's Gino won his Graduate class.

Katrina's Leo was third in Junior Dog.

Jenny's Sadie just missed out on qualifying when she took a fourth in a good sized Puppy Bitch class. She was handled in the ring by Morag, who gets the prize for the smartest dressed GSD exhibitor and who managed to keep her cool even after endless laps of the ring! Eurasiers are so much easier to handle, aren't they Morag?

Well done to everyone and good luck to all of you who are at Blackpool this weekend. Hopefully the weather will be nothing like last year when tents were blown down and the show had to be abandoned!

Last week's news

St Andrews, Cupar and District CS held an open show last Sunday at Perth ice rink. I don't think there were many members at the show and, consequently, there are not many results to report. Please let me know if you were there.

I do know that Elizabeth's Asher won his class and Ria won her Junior Handling class. Well done!

Sunday also saw the companion show at Keith Grammar School and there were quite a few wins for club members at it.

Best In Show went to Linda and Ron's Leo, Reserve Best In Show to Joanne's Walter and Best Puppy In Show to Nicola's Toby. Congratulations all!

There were even more club members in the line up for BIS. Marianne's Glenn won the gundog class, Daveena's Inka won the terrier, Linda and Ron's Esmee won the toy class and Joan's Bo won the hound class. Well done to everyone, great results.

Thanks to Morag for sending in these photos.

Companion show

On Sunday there will be a Companion Show at Keith Grammar School in aid of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Moray. Entries will be taken from 10am and judging starts at 11am. Dogs do not need to be Kennel Club registered to take part.

There are 10 pedigree classes scheduled, to be judged by Ms J McWilliam, and 11 novelty classes, to be judged by Mr G Morgan.

The fun classes include Best Six Legs, Best Crossbreed, Fancy Dress, The Odd Couple, Waggiest Tail and Child Handling. So spruce up your legs, get your costume in order and let's see those tails wagging! It'll be a fun day out and you'll be raising money for a good cause.

A good start for Bertie

There was a show at New Aberdour on May 31st and Sian took Bertie along. This was his first time out and he won the puppy class. Well done Bertie!

A Best in Show for Bronni!

The Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland held a group open show in Perth on Sunday May 24th.

Congratulations to Elizabeth who really had a day to remember. Not only did Asher and Bronni win their respective classes but Bronni went on to take Best of Breed and then topped it off with Best In Show! Great news.

Fran's Diesel was also at the show and he took Best of Breed. Well done.

BMNCC and another Best in Show!

It was a very hot day for Banff, Moray and Nairn Canine Club's first open show of the year at the community centre in Lossiemouth on Saturday 30th May. It was pretty warm inside the hall but many people were to be seen sitting out on the grass making the most of the sunshine in between their classes. The catering van did a roaring trade in ice-lollies!

I'm pleased to be able to report another Best In Show award for a Spey Valley member - the second in 7 days! This time it's congratulations to June and Benson on taking the top award, a great result for a youngster. His breed class win also takes him to within 6 points of a Junior Warrent. We're keeping everything crossed for the next few shows June!

Now for other results. Let me know of any I've missed.

Jill's Barrie and Jamie both won their respective Cavalier classes and Jamie went on to BOB and G1. There was more success for the Pamojill affix when Chico went BNSC Toy and G3.

In hounds, Liz's Bunty won her class, BOB and G3. Erica and Doug's Charlotte won hers, as did Nicky's Alfie, but it was Charlotte who took BOB and G4.

We had a representative in the gundog group as Sue's Logan won his class and BOB.

Daveena's Rowan won her class and went on to terrier G2.

Ria handled Jasper to win the Junior Handling 6-11 years class, Jodi with Mollie won the 12-16 years class and went on to take Best Junior Handler. Apart from Jasper, Ria was also called upon to handle a papillon and Newfoundland - from one extreme to the other but good experience!

Well done everyone!

As ever, apologies for the quality of the photos from this hall, the lighting makes it difficult. Don't forget that you can see, and order, much better photos taken at the show on Stephen Hammond's website.

SKC

The Scottish Kennel Club's first champ show of the year was held at Ingliston over the three days May 15th - 17th. Exhibitors on the first day had to put up with the usual Ingliston wind as well as cold temperatures and rain. Those attending on the second and third days were much luckier as conditions improved.

I only have a few photos to post but there are quite a few results to report.

Erica and Doug's George did very well to win his Post Grad Dog class and Willow was second in Post Grad Bitch.

Elizabeth and George had two wins in the Bolognese classes. Lola won her Junior class and then Best Puppy, Giovanni was first in Post Grad and both Rosa and Lily were placed second in their classes.

Morag's Logie was first in his Junior class and then took Reserve Best Dog.

Daveena's Rowan beat sister Poppy in their Post Grad class and then went on to Reserve Best Bitch.

Linda and Ron's Esmee was first in her Puppy Bitch class.

A few others with Crufts qualifying places:

Jill's Chico was third in his Limit Dog class, whilst Evie and Suki were second and third in their Puppy Bitch class. June's Benson was third in Junior Dog. Sue's Finlay was second in his Post Grad class.

Mention must be made of a few others who just missed out on qualifying places but who took well earned places in large classes:

Liz's Poppy was fifth out of 12 in Yearling Bitch and Bunty took fourth in a class of 13 Post Graduate bitches.

Katrina's Star also just missed out with a fifth place out of 12 in Limit Bitch.

Well done to all of you!

(Don't forget to let me know if I've missed anyone out).

George - 1st Post Grad Dog.

Willow - 2nd Post Grad Bitch

Esmee - Ist Puppy Bitch

Bunty - 4th Post Graduate Bitch
